Biography

Clarity of line. Depth of expression.

Baian Chen is a Boston-based countertenor and emerging international artist studying at the New England Conservatory. In two seasons he has performed eight operatic roles across the United States and Europe.

His repertoire spans the early Baroque through contemporary opera — Handel, Purcell, Gluck, Britten, and Jonathan Dove — with recital and concert appearances in Italy, Germany, Austria, England, and the United States.

Chen performs regularly for audiences outside the concert hall — 11 programs since 2023 in senior living communities, universities, and research institutions across Greater Boston, including UMass Dartmouth and the Whitehead Institute.
